Australia lead pacer Josh Hazelwood has lavished praise on Virat Kohli. The right-arm quick talked about the star India batter and his work ethic ahead of the Test Championship final which will be held at the Oval in England. Hazelwood and Kohli have played together at RCB for two seasons in 2022 and 2023. Now they will go up against each other in the marquee clash.

Hazelwood has been battling with injuries for some time now. He had to shorten his IPL stint in 2023 due to a side issue. Hazelwood is upbeat about him attaining full fitness and playing for the Kangaroos in the big final. The Australian quick is already looking forward to the mouth-watering contest between him and Kohli. Hazelwood went at length to discuss Kohli’s regimen and dedication to the game of cricket.

Virat Kohli is the first to training and he leaves last: Josh Hazelwood

“I think it’s probably how hard he works (that stands out). His fitness first of all – and then his skill work and batting and fielding in particular. “He is always out there (training) first and leaves last … and the intensity he trains at all the time is at such a high level it drags everyone else along for the ride. That can leak on to the other players and improve them as well,” Hazelwood told the Cricket Governing Body.

Hazelwood also put in some warm words of appreciation for Mohammed Siraj. He talked about Siraj and how well he bowled in IPL 2023. “I was a bit late getting there (to RCB this year), but before then he was on fire.”He is up there at the top of the wickets every time, and the economy rate was probably the thing as bowling at Chinnaswamy (RCB’s home ground) is impossible sometimes and he was going at six or six-and-a-half an over. His control was great and he is bowling well.”

Hazelwood said that he was confident of attaining full fitness before the start of the Test Championship final. He said that he is aiming to tick off one box at a time and take it session by session. The pacer has picked up 222 wickets for Australia in Test Cricket.
