CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan gives an update about MS Dhoni’s injury and recovery

MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, made a major statement shortly after they claimed their sixth Indian Premier League championship. Although he claimed that capturing the IPL and retiring would be the ideal way to say goodbye, he made a commitment to play a minimum of one more season if his body allowed it.

Dhoni’s remarks stopped many in their tracks. He said, “Circumstantially if you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement…” before continuing “… but the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say ‘Thank you very much’, but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL.”

Dhoni’s remarks caused a frenzy in the Ahmedabad crowd, but they also signalled another year of slog and toil. Meanwhile, Dhoni underwent painful surgery for a knee injury that he sustained while playing in the IPL 2023.

According to Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan, while Dhoni’s knee has been medically healed and he is feeling OK, there is still plenty of time until next March for Dhoni to make a decision but it needs to be noted that he is 41 years old and will have to do something marvellous to reach that stage.

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan spoke to ESPN Cricinfo, “Actually, he told us immediately after the final is over, he’ll fly to Mumbai, have surgery and go back to Ranchi for rehab. In Mumbai, after Ruturaj’s wedding [on June 4], I visited him. It was a courtesy call. He’s quite comfortable. He said he’ll rest for three weeks and then start his rehab. And like he said, he’s not going to play until January-February. We don’t need to remind him about all that.”
