The Indian cricket board is the richest board amongst all cricket-playing nations and the nation is all set to host the 50-over World Cup in India in 2023. However, the board is at all loggerheads with the Cricket’s governing body over taxation issues, which might force the World body to move the tournament out of India.

To add more, on December 17, Saturday, reports emerged from News18 claiming that the Indian cricket board has not taken action on the tax reduction from the Indian tax authorities. The World body expects the board of the hosting nation to fetch tax reductions from the government, thereby hinting at a possible shift of the venue from India.

Given that the Cricket’s governing body has increased the tax bill to $116m (INR 900 crore), the Indian cricket board is in a position to convince the Indian government of the tax rebate, staring at the possibility of losing the whopping amount. For the unversed, the World body deducted INR 190 crore from the Indian cricket board’s annual share, the last time India hosted the 20-20 World Cup 2016, as the board failed to convince the government of tax rebates.

India facing pressure on all fronts

While reports further claim that the board might fight it out against the World body at the court, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the other hand is leaving no stone unturned to blackmail the Indian cricket board on the back of India boycotting the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 to be held in Pakistan.

Eventually, it might further damage the Roger Binny-led cricket board and if at all the Men in Green boycott the multinational tournament to be held in India next year, it might come as a headache for the Cricket’s governing body as they might end up losing the most as compared to the Indian cricket board. It remains to be seen if the Binny-led board would solve the issue at the earliest, given that the World Cup is not so far away and the reputation is at stake as well.
