Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets locked horns in the final of The Hundred 2022. The Originals looked in fine touch and supreme confidence on the back of defeating the Spirit in the eliminator. Philip Salt and skipper Laurie Evans opened the innings and failed to fire up in the start for the black team. Albeit the team’s batters are coming in with supreme confidence, fans speculated that the pressure of the final might have gotten to them as the duo perished early.
The Originals batters looked out of touch. It was something that the batters themselves might have not wanted, and it escalated further. Wayne Madsen and Tristian Stubbs failed in the middle order to put the team in a fix. Ashton Turner provided hope and paved the way for the yellow brigade as he pushed the team to a decent total.
The pitch at the Lord’s favours chasing and the skipper’s decision puzzled everyone. At the end of the first innings, Laurie Evans might have doubted his decision as his team put on a total of 120/9.
Alex Hales and Dawid Malan opened up the innings for the Rockets. Both the openers did not get off to a cracking start as the duo perished within fifty balls alongside one down tom Kohler-Cadmore. The pitch got a little slow over time and it looked difficult for the batters to even time the ball.
Samit Patel and Colin Munro failed to emulate their best and the team looked on course to lose the game. The Originals at one point dominated the Rockets until Lewis Gregory walked into power the team closer to the target. It was all the Rockets’ day in the end as they defeated the Originals by two wickets. The fans couldn’t really keep calm as their favourite team clinched the title at the iconic Lord’s. Let’s take a look at some of the Twitter reactions:
