Chennai Super Kings faced a stern test at their home ground in Chennai in the form of the inconsistent Sunrisers Hyderabad. The visitors are winless against the Chennai Super Kings in all the matches that have been played at the Chepauk stadium.
Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first on a dry wicket at the Chepauk. Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma gave the Sunrisers Hyderabad the start they needed as they were firing boundaries and making use of the powerplay conditions. They lost the wicket of Harry Brook in the fifth over, but Rahul Tripathi joined the crease to ensure the runs.
But once sir Ravindra Jadeja got going, he and the other bowlers ensured that the batters had to go for attacking shots. Jadeja was lethal today as he scalped three wickets and he got good support from the other bowlers. There was no Hyderabad batter that got a fifty, which resulted in the team making only a paltry score of 134/7 in 20 overs.
How did the Chennai Super Kings chase pan out?
In the first partnership, Devon Conway was the one who was more aggressive. Ruturaj Gaikwad served as the chase’s anchor, and he did it flawlessly. They were comfortably under the required run rate and attempted to get as many runs as possible in the powerplay itself. Gaikwad was eventually out, thanks to Umran Malik. The first wicket partnership between the two of them lasted 87 runs, and Gaikwad’s unfortunate run out was the only thing that was in SRH’s favour. However, Conway continued to kick after the halfway point to finish undefeated and lead his team home.
CSK had a little bit of a hiccup near the end because they would have liked to conclude it sooner. However, Mayank Markande continued his strong ball performance with a wonderful spell of bowling. But the outcome was rarely in question. Although Markande postponed what had to happen, CSK was prepared thanks to another outstanding start from Devon Conway as well as Ruturaj Gaikwad.
