The 2023 Indian T20 League auction is planned to be held on December 16 in Bengaluru, as per reports. In the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League, it will be normalcy restored as the home-and-away format will take centerstage again. The upcoming edition is likely to be held in the last week of March.
The home-and-away format will be back after a three-year hiatus. There could be a further widening of the salary purse by another INR 5 crores. The salary purse in the 2022 auction and edition had a cap of INR 90 crores. This year it could be adjusted to INR 95 crores. The auction in the 2022 edition was a mega auction while in the 2023 edition, a mini-auction will be held, according to the Times of India reports.
“The next season of men’s Indian T20 League will also go back to the home-and-away format with all the 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues. This was confirmed by Indian Cricket Board’s outgoing President Sourav Ganguly in a letter addressed to the state associations on September 22.
The last three editions of the Indian T20 League was held in bio-secure bubbles with quarantine periods and periodic testing. Out of the last three editions, the 2020 edition was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which took place during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, it was initially hosted in India where 30 games took place before the pandemic wreaked havoc in the nation, which prompted the tournament to be shifted to the UAE later on. In 2022, the competition was held with 10 teams and entirely in India.
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board are in talks to launch the Women’s Indian T20 League which will have five teams and a total of 22 matches which will be played in a caravan-style format in two venues. The maximum squad strength will be 18 players out of which there will be six overseas players in each squad.
