India and Australia locked horns against each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Australia won the toss and chose to bat. They gave a much-improved performance with the bat as compared to Nagpur. They made 263 in the first innings with Usman Khawaja making 81 off 125 balls with 12 fours and one six. Peter Handscomb also played a fine knock of 72 off 142 balls with nine fours.

India’s first innings was an innings of two halves as the spin trio of Nathan Lyon, Matt Kuhemann and Todd Murphy had the Indian top-order on the ropes. Lyon picked up 5-67 in his 29-over spell. At 139-7, India were in the doldrums but Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel brought India back with a 114-run partnership for the eighth wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked 10 wickets between them to bring India back into the game

India ended their innings at 262 with Australia taking a 1-run lead. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne were unbeaten heading into day 3 and the match could have gone either way but Jadeja brought India back into the contest by taking 7-42 in his 12.1 over spell. Ravichandran Ashwin complemented him very well by taking 3-59 in his 16-over spell.

This performance steamrolled the Australians and gave India a target of just 114 to win. In the second innings, India had a stutter with the early loss of Kl Rahul but Rohit Sharma steadied the ship with a well-crafted 31 off 20 balls, including three fours and two sixes before he was unfortunately run-out. Virat Kohli flattered to deceive as he was out to Todd Murphy for 20 off 31 balls with three fours.

In the end, it took the duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and KS Bharat to steer India home. Pujara, after getting a duck on his 100th Test, played a patient knock of 31 off 74 balls with four fours. KS Bharat made vital 23 runs off 22 balls with three fours and one six to get India through.

This knock will give the wicketkeeper-batter a lot of confidence. India won the series 2-0 and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Let us take a look at the reactions here-
