Steve Smith has not had the best of starts to the India tour for the four-Test match series. In Nagpur, he scored 37 runs off 107 balls with seven fours in the first innings before he got out to Ravindra Jadeja and then in the second innings, he scored an unbeaten 25 off 51 balls with two fours and one six.

In the ongoing second Test against India at Delhi which also is Cheteshwar Pujara’s 100th Test, he was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin for a second ball duck in Australia’s first innings. He bowled a slider to Smith that went on with the angle.

The ball held its angle and took the outside edge for KS Bharat to take a superb catch behind the stumps. Ashwin has had the wood over Smith in recent times.

Steve Smith had practiced a lot against Mahesh Pithiya at Bengaluru before the India series

Ashwin has defied the matchups as well because he took out two of the best right-handed batters in the Australia batting line-up. Smith had done some extensive preparation coming into this tour as he practiced against Mahesh Pithiya, who was a Baroda-based off-spinner who had modelled his action closely on the lines of Ashwin. However, till now, he has failed to win the battle against the Indian spinners.

Australia, at one stage, were cruising at 94-0 but India came back strongly by taking four quick wickets. At the time of writing, Australia are 129-4.

Ashwin also dismissed Marnus Labuschagne, who has been one of Australia’s best batters in Test cricket in recent times. India won the first Test at Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs with the spinners running riot over Australia in both innings. The Kangaroos were all-out for 177 in the first innings and then they were bundled out for 91. India have take a 1-0 lead in the series.

India must win this series against Australia 3-0 or 3-1 to confirm their place at the Test Championship in England. India lost the last Test Championship final against New Zealand, which was held at Southampton in England. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
