South Africa has suffered a big blow ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The African team has lost two of its pace bowlers, Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala. Nortje was one of the sure starters in the team. The loss of the express pace bowler will dent the chances of South Africa in the tournament. Magala was a good backup pacer for the likes of Kagiso Rabada and others. But South Africa will miss his services as well.

The injuries of the two pacers have hurt the balance of the South African team. With just a couple of weeks to go before the big tournament, South Africa is left with a big decision to make. Finding a replacement for someone like Nortje is a tough task. Now South Africa will have to bring someone as good as Nortje to their squad. There is a need to find a replacement for the injured Magala as well.

South African star pacer Nortje reported back spasms during the second ODI of the series against Australia. In the match, the pacer bowled only 5 overs and returned without completing his spell. The star bowler was ruled out of the remainder of the series against Australia. The pacer was deemed doubtful for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The confirmation of the fact has come, and South Africa is at a loss.

Anrich Nortje misses second ODI World Cup on a trot

Nortje happened to miss the 2019 ODI World Cup as well. Before the tournament, Nortje was hit on the hand while practicing in the nets. As a result, the 29-year-old was ruled out of the tournament. Chris Morris replaced Nortje in the tournament. In the recent years, Nortje played a lot in subcontinent conditions, particularly in the Indian Premier League for Delhi Capitals.

South Africa will miss the experience of Nortje. On the other hand, Sisanda Magala will also not travel with South Africa. The right-arm pacer sustained a knee injury a few weeks back. According to the reports, the South African pacer is yet to recover from the injury. The 32-year-old played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023.
