India will be the host of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The event will take place in October and November.  This is the first time the World Cup will be held in India during this timeslot as the 2011 World Cup was played at peak summertime just before the Indian Premier League (IPL). The World Cup will be played in 10 venues and at present all the stadiums in those venues are getting a major upgrade ahead of the tournament.

Ahead of the big event, Ravichandran Ashwin on his You Tube channel spoke about the role of the toss and the dew on Indian surfaces, come the World Cup. “I hope toss doesn’t play any role in the World Cup because India’s entire skill of batting, bowling, spin, seam, whatever it be, will come into complete force if there is no dew”.  the Indian off spinner said. Ashwin had strongly advocated against the impact of dew. In an older video of his You Tube channel, he came up with a novel idea to tackle the problem.

We should start matches at 11:30 AM during the 2023 ODI World Cup- Ravichandran Ashwin

“My suggestion – or rather my opinion – for the World Cup is to look at what venues we are playing in, and at what times. Why shouldn’t we start matches at 11.30am during the World Cup?” Ashwin said. But when it comes to the World Cup schedule, the matches have been decided with the venues but the timings have not been disclosed yet. It will be interesting to see at which time slot the matches are played.

India have not won a World event since 2013. The national side would like to win the World Cup for the home fans. India recently lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final to Australia by 209 runs. The next assignment for the Rohit Sharma led side is a full-fledged tour against the West Indies which will feature two tests, three ODIs and 5 T20Is.

While the Test and ODI squads have been announced, the T20I squad will be announced on a later date. The Men in Blue will be keen to start the new WTC cycle on a confident note. Cheteshwar Pujara has been left out of the Test side. Ajinkya Rahane has been reappointed as the vice-captain of the Test side.
