It was great news for Cricket South Africa as Dewald Brevis was handed his debut cap in the first of the three T20Is against Australia. When we talk about Brevis he has done well in T20 Leagues around the world such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) and SA20 to name a few. In the cash-rich league, Brevis has scored 161 runs with the highest of 49 and picked up a wicket. When he made his debut for Mumbai Indians in 2022, he was called the next big thing in South African cricket.
When it comes to the IPL, Tilak Varma and Brevis were often seen together in the Mumbai Indians camp. The two have developed a great bond and they were often seen eating breakfast together. When Brevis received his ODI cap for South Africa, Tilak was over the moon and he couldn’t help contain his excitement of a fellow youngster getting a debut. When it comes to Varma he has played 7 T201s. He has scored 175 runs with the highest score of 49 in the West Indies.

Tilak has also been included in the Asia Cup squad. If the Andhra lad does well for India in crunch games, it remains to be seen if he could make it to the 15 in the World Cup squad. The World Cup squad will be announced after Pakistan play India in Sri Lanka on September 3. Varma provides a left-handed option in India’s middle order and has shown amazing temperament in the limited chances that he has got.
The IPL has made everyone aware of different cultures and has strengthened the Indo-South African bond between the two. The two players are also young and come from a very similar age group. This has been the beauty of the league over the years. Talking about India, they will play Pakistan on September 2 in the Asia Cup. Pakistan beat Nepal by 238 runs in their first Asia Cup game.
