Team India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey was all praise for pacer Mukesh Kumar, who made his debut in all three formats of the game during the ongoing tour of West Indies. The 29-year-old, who impressed everyone with his domestic performances, became only the second Indian cricketer in history after T Natarajan to make debut in all formats on a single tour.

Ahead of the fourth and crucial T20I match against West Indies in Florida, Mhambrey said that Kumar is capable of playing in all three formats and his workload will be managed accordingly. The Delhi Capitals bowler, who played his first match for India in the second Test in Trinidad, has so far taken eight wickets in seven international games. His best performance was in the third ODI where he took three wickets for 30 runs in India’s massive 200-run victory.

“Very happy with the way he has progressed; the thought process, the discussion we had with him and his approach towards the game is fabulous. You need someone like him to come here on a tour and play against tough opponents on a different wicket which is never easy,” the bowling coach said in a pre-match press conference.

“But the way he has gone about it and the character he has shown (makes us) extremely happy. Going forward, since we know he is capable of playing all three formats, we need to be smart with his workload management. He has played a lot of domestic cricket and got quality skills out there,” he added.

We had the opportunities but unfortunately, we couldn’t seize them: Mhambrey on India losing the first two matches

Having won the first two matches, the home team can clinch the series if they win just one more game in the five-match T20I series. The Hardik Pandya-led side bounced back in the third match in Guyana and recorded a dominant seven-wicket victory to keep the series alive (1-2). Speaking ahead of the crucial match on Saturday (August 12), Mhambrey expressed his happiness with India’s performance in the third T20I.

“I’m extremely happy with the way we fought back (in the third T20). In the first two games, I don’t think (we) were too far behind. We had the opportunities but unfortunately, we couldn’t seize them. Had we done that, the results would have been different. So, I’m not worried in that way. We were very much on track, just a couple of instances we lost and couldn’t seize (the win),” Mhambrey said.
