Asian Cricket Council Women’s Emerging team’s Cup- Match Report

UAE vs Sri Lanka Mong Kok Stadium 

The Asian Cricket Council Women’s emerging team’s Cup was played at the Mong Kok Stadium in Hong Kong on June 12. UAE Women locked horns against Sri Lanka Women. UAE won the toss and chose to bat first. It was not a good start for UAE as they collapsed in a heap and were bundled out for 95 runs. The top scorer for the UAE was Isha Oza who made a stroke-filled 39 off 30 balls with two fours and two sixes.

Other than her and Teertha Satish who scored 16 off 10 balls with two fours at the top of the order, no of the other batters could get going as the Sri Lankan bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals. Madushika Methtanada picked up 4-16 in her burst of 3.3 overs. Malsha Sehanni took 2-13 in four overs. There was also support from Nimasha Meepage who took 2-17 in her four overs spell.

In the second innings Sri Lanka came through in the end of the penultimate ball in a low scoring thriller. The UAE bowlers fought hard and kept themselves in the game despite posting a low score in the first place. Oza took 2-10 in her four overs for UAE. Indhuja Nandakumar picked up 2-11 in her short two over spell. Vishmi Gunaratne was the top scorer for Sri Lanka who made 21 off 32 balls with one four opening the batting for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka finished the game when the score was 96-7.

Bangladesh vs Malaysia Mong Kok Stadium

The second match took place between Bangladesh and Malaysia at the same stadium. This was a more one-sided encounter. Bangladesh batted first and scored 148-6 in their 20 overs. Murshida Khatun played a valuable innings for her side in the middle order. She scored an unbeaten 57 off 44 balls with seven fours.  Aiysa Eleesa was the best bowlers for Malaysia as she took 2-20 in her four overs.

In the second innings, it was all one-way traffic as Malaysia were kept down to 51-8 in their 20 overs. The Malaysian batters could not get going as they were put on a strangle hold by the Bangladesh bowlers. Rabeya Khan took 2-7 in her three over spell and was Bangladesh’s best bowler. Bangladesh won by a handsome margin of 97 runs to start their campaign on a high.
