The Indian Cricket Team made a fabulous start to the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma and his men beat Pakistan by a massive margin of 228 runs to take home the points. The win meant that India is now at the top of the table with 2 points and a run rate of +4.7.
India scored 356/2 from their fifty overs which was their joint top score in an ODI game versus Pakistan. Kuldeep Yadav then ran through the Pakistan batting order to claim his 2nd ODI five-wicket haul. Pakistan was bowled out for a mere 128 with Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah not batting due to injuries.
Indian players celebrate the huge win
Post the 228-run win over Pakistan, the Indian players were celebrating the occasion in the swimming pool. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja were clicked enjoying the win over their rivals. The match was played across two days with rain retaining its constant presence.
India will be seen playing for a third day in a row when they get to the field on Tuesday. Their next opponents will be Sri Lanka who is the hosts and the defending champions. As far as the weather is concerned, it is not that positive leading to another rain delay in Colombo.
The Indian team reached 356/2 in their 50 overs, thanks to centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. The two struck together an unbroken partnership of 233 runs for the third wicket.
It was a special game for KL Rahul as he was making his comeback to the side after months of injury lay-off. The right-handed batter scored his 6th ODI ton and his celebration showed the relief he had on his face. Rahul scored 111 not out with 12 fours and 2 maximums from 106 deliveries.
Virat Kohli continued his dream run in Colombo as he scored an unbeaten 122 off 94 balls. This was his 47th ODI century. Kohli also became the fastest to reach 13,000 ODI runs.
Chasing 357, Pakistan were all out for 128 as Kuldeep Yadav picked 5/25 from his 8 overs. Fakhar Zaman top scored with 27, while Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 23 each. Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur picked a wicket each for India.
