The Indian Team are not in the best of positions ahead of the ODI World Cup that will take place on home soil. The only positive that came out in the recent T20I series against the West Indies was the heartwarming performances of Tilak Varma. The man from Andhra showed a lot of tenacity and grit and delivered some good knocks. Now as per reports, the whispers doing the rounds in the cricket circles are that Varma could make the cut to the Indian ODI middle order on the back of runs against West Indies.
India have had injury problems as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are still recovering from injury. The No 4 slot has been a big monkey on the back of the Indian side. Even in the 2019 World Cup, the Men in Blue could not zero in on a proper number four. Ambati Rayudu was poised as the No 4 then but the Indian management had a change of heart in the end and went to Vijay Shankar in place of Rayudu. The No 4 slot was shared between Vijay Shakar, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jhadav and Hardik Pandya.
Team India lacks part-time bowling options in its ODI setup
India’s batting order is more right-hand dominant, if Tilak gets a chance and makes the cut, then the Indian batting order will get a point of variation. Ravi Shastri in an interview had earlier said that he would like to see at least two left-handers in the top 6 for India. Another headache for India is the lack of part-time bowling options which can prove to be the Achilles heel in the World Cup. It has been a problem that the national said have had in recent times.
The Men in Blue have also been very overreliant on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to win games for India with the bat. The Rahul Dravid-coached side are in a muddle at the moment and will hope to find all the answers to their problems ahead of the big tournament. India have not won a World event since 2013.
