India got a reality check in the second ODI at Barbados against the West Indies. India could not get their act together with the bat as they were bundled out for 181-10 in just 40.5 overs. Ishan Kishan was India’s best batter as he scored 55 with six fours and one six. Shubman Gill looked good but made only 34 off 49 balls with five fours. Suryakumar Yadav made 24 off 25 balls coming in at number 6. In the first ODI, he made an eye-catching 19 off 25 balls with three fours and one six. But fell going for the big shot.

Fans on Twitter were very upset with the way he got out and demanded more accountability from the Indian Team management. After the match, Dravid defended Suryakumar’s poor run of form and said, “Surya is a really good player, no doubt about it but he would be the first one to admit that his ODI game has not been up to the mark of T20, he is also learning ODI – we want to give him as many opportunities we can & then it’s up to him to utilize it”. In the recent home series against Australia, he registered three consecutive golden ducks.

Suryakumar Yadav has hit 473 runs in 25 ODI games that he has played

When we look at his career, the Mumbaikar has played 25 ODI matches and scored 476 runs. He has an average of 23.80 and a strike rate of 100.42. He has struck two fifties so far. The word going around about Suryakumar is that he is playing too many shots in ODI cricket and getting out. Although he has been a sensation for India in T20Is with three tons, the same cannot be said about his career in ODIs.

In the second ODI, Hardik Pandya captained India. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested and Sanju Samson and Axar Patel came in their place. After a lopsided batting show, the two senior players will be back for the third ODI which will be the decider. For the West Indies cricket fans, they will be happy with the result as the Men in Maroon were knocked out of the ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe recently.
