In a big blow to the Texas Super Kings (TSK), Ambati Rayudu will not join the side to play Major League Cricket (MLC). Rayudu has decided to pull out after a decision from the Indian Cricket Board. The Indian Cricket Board will come up with a policy in relation to the participation of players which includes those who have called it a day in overseas T20 leagues. TSK is the arm of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
“Ambati Rayudu will not be available to participate in the first season of the MLC with Texas Super Kings due to personal reasons. He will continue to cheer for the team from India,” TSK said in a statement. Rayudu hung up his boots from all forms of cricket after he had helped CSK win their fifth title during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) edition. It was earlier confirmed that Rayudu will be a part of TSK.
“Indian Cricket Board will formulate a policy for its players (including retired players) with respect to their participation in overseas T20 leagues,” the Indian Cricket Board said in a statement. When it comes to IPL, Rayudu has played primarily for Mumbai Indians (MI) and CSK. With MI he played in the middle order and also donned the gloves whenever required. For MI he scored 2416 runs at an average of 27.64 and at a strike rate of 126.16. He also hit 14 fifties.
With CSK, he played a dual role as he batted both up at the top and also in the middle order. The right-handed batter represented the franchise in 90 games and hit 1932 runs at an average of 29.72 and at a strike rate of 129.31. The 37-year-old has hit one hundred and eight fifties for the Yellove Army. The other buzz for Rayudu is that he would make the switch from cricket to politics in Andhra Pradesh and so he has chosen to miss the MLC.
Rayudu also represented India in white ball cricket and was in the reckoning for a slot in the 2019 World Cup. In the end, he did not make the cut but was in the reserves. Vijay Shankar was selected due to his 3D abilities. Rayudu also helped CSK win the IPL in 2018 with an outstanding season.
