Australia won the first Test against the West Indies by 10 wickets. It was a dominating win for the home side as the Men in Maroon looked threatening at no point in the match. A good effort from the Australian bowlers ensured that the visiting side could not do anything much in a Test match that lasted for two days and a session.

In the first innings, the West Indies managed to score only 188 runs. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood were brilliant with the ball and claimed four wickets each from their end. Only Kirk McKenzie and Shamar Joseph were impressive with the bat for the visiting side and even they could not do a huge damage against the bowlers.

Australia in their 1st innings scored 283 runs. The match saw a great batting by Travis Head, who came in and conquered the difficult conditions to bat. For the WI, Shamar was impressive on his debut, he claimed a fifer with the ball. The right-arm pacer got two big wickets in the innings like Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. But he did not get enough support from the other players.

Josh Hazlewood runs through the batting lineup

Australia got a lead of 95 runs, which was huge on a wicket like the Adelaide Oval. Trailing the score of Australia, the visiting side fell like a pack of cards. No batter could stay longer in the middle. Every batter fell into the trap of the bowlers, in particular to that of Josh Hazlewood. The star pacer bowled 14 overs, conceded 35 runs, and claimed five wickets, including six maiden overs.

No batter from the WI managed to score more than 30 runs. It meant that the visiting side suffered yet another collapse in the match. They were dismissed for just 120 runs in the 2nd innings. The target for Australia to win the match was just 26 runs, which was achieved by the Australian openers in just 6.4 overs. Travis Head won the Player of the Match award for his great knock with the bat in the 1st innings.
