Shreyas Iyer is not looking to zero in on surgery at present. As per a report from Cricbuzz, he will not take this step. But he will instead rest for a few more days before he takes a final decision on surgery. The doctors at the National Cricket Academy have said that surgery is the best alternative for Iyer. The Mumbai batter however wants to see whether the injury could be treated without surgery.
When this development happened, both the Indian Cricket Board and the NCA have been informed of the matter. The top brass at the NCA and the Indian Cricket Board is checking whether Iyer can take part in the Indian T20 League at a later date. As per the leading website, Iyer will not be a part of Kolkata’s first game, but he has not been ruled out of the tournament.
CricBuzz had earlier reported that the Kolkata captain was asked to rest for 10 ten days by Mumbai spine specialist Abhay Nene. The right-hander is currently in Mumbai following the directives of the doctor. The India batter wants to be part of the 2023 World Cup squad. If the middle-order batter opts for surgery, then he could be out for six to seven months. If that happens, then it will be a race against time to get fit for the World Cup.
Iyer was ruled out of New Zealand due to a back injury. He had to opt out of the fourth Test match at Ahmedabad against Australia. This happened due to the re-emergence of the back problem in the middle of the game. He had skipped the first Test at Nagpur due to the same injury. “Poor guy! It just was such an unfortunate incident. He had to wait all day to bat and then when the day got over, the issue he had with his back recurred,” Rohit Sharma said when Iyer got injured.
Iyer was a good find for India at number four but injuries meant that he was not able to get a continuous run in the Indian side. Despite his short ball problems, Iyer is a good player of spin and has been one of the middle-order finds for India. Fans will hope that Iyer recovers quickly and play in the World Cup.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:

9-10 ODI matches are left, we should try Samson or Patidar for No. 4 in case Iyer doesn't recover

Nope, this was the mistake last time team management took.
In 2019, Team Management gave chances to KL as No.4. For WC they took KL as middle order(4) batsman. Due to Dhawan's injury, he opened the innings in last moment.
It affected overall team setup. Now again. Same

No.4 curse is real for India . When he just thought that Iyer is that guy ,now he is injured . Pant too is out . Sky ain't working. Only solution i see is KL at 4 ,Axar/Washi at 5,Hardik at 6,Jadeja at 7 . Washi is a better batsman than Axar and i beleive he can chip runs middle

In 2017 only, we knew India found a gem. Sadly we did not pick him up for 2019 World Cup but he deserves the upcoming one. To play it, to win it.
