Luke Wood gets the better of Ben Cutting in lightning-fast run-out in BBL 2022-23

The 56th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday between the Sydney Thunder and the Melbourne Stars. Sydney Thunder won the toss and chose to bowl first. Melbourne Stars did not get off to the best of starts as Joe Clarke departed after making just 4 off 4 balls with one four.
Thomas Rogers hung around and made 35 off 36 balls with two fours before he was caught by Chris Green off Usman Qadir. Campbell Kellaway made 13 off 12 with two fours but was caught by Alex Ross off Daniel Sams. The other notable contribution was Hilton Cartwright who made 36 off 36 balls with one four.

The Stars made their way to 119-7 in 20 overs. Qadir was the most successful bowler for the Thunder as he picked up 3-24 in his four-over spell. Chris Green picked up 2-19 in his four overs. In reply, the Thunder did not start well with David Warner falling to Thomas Rogers off Luke Wood when the score was only 4. Jason Sangha made 10 off 11 balls with one four He was stumped by Clarke of Adam Zampa. Alex Ross made 14 off 11 balls with one four and one six. He was castled by Zampa. Sams came in at no 7 and played a valuable innings of 28 off 18 balls with three fours and one six.
With contributions from Ben Cutting who made 9 off 9 balls with one six who was run out by Luke Wood and McAndrew who made 12 off 10 balls with one four Thunder won the match by three wickets. The run-out of Cutting by Wood created a lot of buzz. The incident happened in the fourth ball of the 15th over.
Wood bowls a slower ball into the pitch and Sams tried to steal a single. Wood darts across the turf picks up the ball and throws it at the stumps. He beat Cutting in the race to get to the other end and ran him out. It was a good ball, to begin with as Wood bowled a ball that denied a batter of any room and then he demonstrated great awareness and speed.
