The total of 409 women cricketers will go under the hammer during the auction of the inaugural Women’s T20 League on Monday, February 13. The auction is conducted by a female auctioneer, Malliga Sagar, for the first time in the history of a T20 League.
India women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was sold to Mumbai franchise for the first Women’s T20 League. Harmanpreet had a base price of Rs. 50 lakh. The UP Franchise entered the bid with Rs 1.7 crore but the star batter was purchased by the five-time Men’s T20 League champions in the bidding war for a massive bid of Rs 1.8 crore. Mumbai franchise beat competition from Delhi Franchise, UP Franchise, and Bangalore Franchise to acquire the Indian captain.
Harmanpreet was the second player sold in the first-ever Women’s T20 League auction after India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana made history by being the first player sold in the auction. She was roped in by Bangalore Franchise for a massive sum of Rs. 3.4 crore. Mandhana remains the most expensive player thus far.
