From being a part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning team to leading the Indian Cricket Team in the 2019 World Cup and lifting India to number one in the Test rankings, Virat Kohli’s journey as an international cricketer has been no less than a dream, to say the least.

He made his international debut for India in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in the year 2008. Virat Kohli opened the innings with Gautam Gambhir and scored 12 runs in 22 balls in that match.

He took some time to seal his place in the national side but, once, he did, there was no looking back, after that. 13 years back, on this very date, Virat Kohli celebrated his maiden ton in international cricket in an ODI match against Sri Lanka.

In the fourth ODI of the five-match series against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens stadium, Virat Kohli announced his arrival on the biggest stage. Chasing a mammoth 315-run target, India had lost both Virender Sehwag (10) and Sachin Tendulkar (8 off 8) early in their innings.

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir then joined hands and steadied India’s ship. The duo mixed caution with aggression and stitched a record partnership of 224 runs for the third wicket.

Virat Kohli hit 11 fours and 1 six en route to a sensational knock of 107 runs in 114 balls. He exhibited a display of his brilliant stroke-play, hitting boundaries all around the ground. Virat got out in the 40th over but Gautam Gambhir’s unbeaten 150-run knock meant India chased down the target in 48.1 overs.
