‘You have to focus on the needs of the team’ – Rohit Sharma talks about India’s T20 World Cup squad

India went on to win the final T20I match against Afghanistan on January 17 in Bengaluru. The most dramatic point of the match was the double-super over. First, the Afghanistan team failed to score three runs on the last ball of the match which led to one super over. While chasing in the super over, the Indian team failed to score two runs in the last ball. This led to the second super over. Even after the drama, India won the match. Post the match, Captain Rohit Sharma talked about the team combination for the T20 World Cup and also mentioned that they will look forward to maintaining the team’s balance.

Rohit said, “In the West Indies, the conditions are quite slow, so we have to pick the squad accordingly. Again I say, that Rahul Bhai and I have tried to maintain clarity in the team. The one thing I have learnt from captaincy is that you can’t keep everyone happy. You have to focus on the needs of the team.”

Sharma made it pretty clear that there will be some players who will play in the T20 World Cup. However, he didn’t name the players. The team selection will depend on the pitches as the West Indies will be slow.

Coming back from two consecutive ducks, Rohit Sharma scored a beautiful century in Bengaluru. As he played some of his fearless shots, he also played some unorthodox shots like sweeps and reverse sweeps. In the post-match presentation, Rohit mentioned how he has been practising those shots for two years in the nets and feels good to play those shots.

“I have been practising reverse sweeps and sweeps for the past two years. You would have seen me play them once or twice in Test matches. You have the options and it’s up to you how you are using those options,” said Sharma.
