The Women’s T20 League match between Mumbai and UP took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. UP won the toss and chose to bowl. Mumbai got off to a good start, courtesy of Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews. Bhatia made 21 off 18 balls with four fours. Matthews made a run-a-ball 26 with two fours and one six.

When Anjali Sarvani and Parshavi Chopra dismissed Bhatia and Matthews respectively, the game could have gone either way at 69-2.ย  But Nat Sciver-Brunt plundered the UP bowlers and made a fine 72 off 38 balls with nine fours and two sixes. This innings gave Mumbai a strong total of 182-4 in their 20 overs.

Issy Wong, the wrecker-in-chief for Mumbai

In the second innings, the golden girl was Issy Wong as she picked up the first hat-trick in the Women’s T20 League. She dismissed Kiran Navgire, Simran Shaikh and Sophie Ecclestone to change UP’s score from 84-4 to 84-7 in a matter of three balls. Her pace was fiery and Shaikh and Ecclestone were not up to it.

Wong picked up 4-15 in her four overs spell as Mumbai had bossed over UP the whole game in spectacular fashion. Mumbai’s trump card Saika Ishaque picked up 2-24 in her 2.4 overs spell and provided good support. UP have been wonderful through the Women’s Indian T20 League and have recorded amazing victories against Gujarat and other franchises. But the Alyssa Healy led side failed to turn up in the eliminator.

The final match between Mumbai and Delhi should be a cracking contest to watch. The two best sides will battle it out in the final. Mumbai and Delhi have gelled well as a team. They have not relied on individual brilliance like some of the other sides. Different people have stepped up on different occasions for both teams.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Meg Lanning have been good with captaincy through the Women’s T20 League and the final might come down who goes a step ahead and thinks better in terms of tactics. The final will be held on 26 February on Sunday at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
