India and the West Indies locked horns at Dominica in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series. West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. Day 1 was a day which belonged to India as the Men in Blue bossed all three sessions. Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite got off to a start and hit a couple of boundaries. His opening partner Tagenarine  Chanderpaul was dismissed for 12 off 44 balls by a superb delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin. Brathwaite followed Chanderpaul soon after as Ashwin tempted him to play one across the line which cost him his wicket.

As quick wickets were falling at one end, Debutant Allick Athanaze was showing his class. He scored a classy 47 off 99 balls with six fours and one six. He fell to Ashwin when he tried to take the off-spinner on to get to what would have been his maiden half-century in Test cricket. For India, Ashwin put the West Indies batters in a web that they could not get out of. He picked up 5-60 in 24.3 overs. While doing so he completed the milestone of getting to 700 wickets across all formats.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his fifth five-wicket haul against the West Indies at Dominica

Ashwin also picked up his fifth five-wicket haul against the West Indies. The ace off-spinner received great support from Ravindra Jadeja and who picked up 3-26 in his 14-over spell and Shardul Thakur who was miserly as he gave away just 15 runs and picked up the wicket of Raymon Reifer in his 7-over spell. The hosts could not get their heads around the Indian bowling lineup as they folded up for a 150.

In the second innings, India started off in authoritative fashion with the right-left combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal showcased a range of shots en route to his unbeaten 40 off 73 balls with six fours. India skipper Rohit Sharma survived a close call when he was batting early on but other than that he looked comfortable at the crease.

Rohit hit 30 off 65 balls with three fours and one six. The other big positive for India was that Ishan Kishan looked calm and assured behind the stumps even against the spinners. Kishan was constantly encouraging the bowlers and was very chirpy behind the stumps which helped India remain alert all the time.
