The 10th match of the Women’s T20 League took place at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. UP won the toss and chose to bat. It was not a good first innings for them as they could score just 159-6 in their 20 overs. Alyssa Healy top scored, with 58 off 46 balls, including seven fours and one six. Tahlia McGrath scored 50 off 27 balls with 9 fours.

Mumbai made the target look easy and chased it down in 17.3 overs. Meanwhile, in the second innings, there was some drama with a controversial lbw decision involving Hayley Mathews. Ecclestone bowled a slider to Mathews. The ball deflected off the boot before hitting the bat. It went to the third umpire for a review. Ball tracking said it was going to hit the middle stump. Mathews was baffled by that decision.

Mathews was finally dismissed for 12 off 17 balls with two fours by Sophie Ecclestone

Some more drama unfolded as the decision was reviewed again by the batter.  The umpire had a longer look at the pictures this time and concluded that the spike happened due to the bat grazing the pad and not the ball hitting the boot. This decision had a lot of sea-sawing. Mathews, unfortunately, fell for 12 off 17 balls to Sophie Ecclestone soon after.

In the run chase, Yastika Bhatia got her side off to the perfect start. The wicket-keeper batter scored a blistering 42 off 27 balls, with eight fours and one six. She was dismissed by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.  After a brief lull in proceedings, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat -Sciver Brunt steadied the innings for Mumbai. Kaur scored 53 off 32 balls, with nine fours and one six. Brunt scored 45 off 31 balls, with six fours and one six. Kaur took McGrath apart by hitting her for 19 runs in her first over.

Mumbai won the match by 8 wickets. This is Mumbai’s fourth victory in the Women’s T20 League and they still stay on top of the points table.
