The Cricket Governing Body has become a victim of a mega scam. This has happened four times as the World body was duped for a total amount of 2.5 Million, which is INR 203 crore. The hoodwinker acted as the vendor of the Cricket Governing Body from the USA. A fake email ID was used and an email was sent to the Cricket Governing Body’s CFO for payment. The Cricket Governing Body cleared the payment without noticing the exact email ID. The FBI is investigating the case.
With this scam, the Cricket Governing Body has become a victim of phishing. The scammer created a fake email id in the name of the Cricket Governing body’s consultants in the USA and wrote to the CEO of the Cricket Governing Body. The Cricket Governing Body was not able to notice the different bank a/c.
It cant be true – An associate nation official on the phishing scam
The officials at the Dubai office have sealed their lips over the issue. According to Cricbuzz, an investigation has been launched into the matter of the phishing incident. A probe has been launched with the help of US enforcement law agencies. It is big news that the Cricket Governing Body has become a victim of fishing.
This massive loss of money will create a lot of adverse consequences to the cricketing ecosystem as associate countries and other budding countries are dependent on the Cricket Governing Body for funding and this large sum being taken away will impact nations like those. Associate nations who have an ODI status, USD 500,000 to 1 million per annum.
This will cripple such nations badly. “It can’t be true. An ODI Associate 13-20 ranked can get anything between 500k to one million,” An official from an associate nation told Cricbuzz. The incident came to light on Thursday night. It will be interesting to see what the Cricket Governing Body will do and what steps they will undertake to recover the enormous sum of money that has disappeared from the hands of the Cricket Governing Body.
