South Africa beat India by five wickets in the 2nd T20I at  St George’s Park, Gqeberha. Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to field first. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. The Men in Blue have brought a new side with the majority of the senior members who were part of the ODI World Cup 2023 squad being given rest and they are trying with young guns with the T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma put on a 49-run third-wicket stand-off 24 balls. The former scored 70 runs with Rinku Singh off only 48 balls before being back to the pavilion after scoring a valuable half-century when the team was struggling. Suryakumar beat former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record for the highest score made by an India captain in a T20I match in the SA. He also became the joint second-fastest batter to 2000 T20I runs and levelling India star batter Virat Kohli. Rinku eventually scored his first T20I half-century and showed his finishing touches to the Proteas.

Gerald Coetzee picked two wickets in the final over making a comeback for the host. The Men in Blue scored 180/7 in 19.3 balls with the rain came down and the match was reduced to 15 overs the Proteas needed 152 runs to win the match.
