There has been widespread criticism over the pitch at Cape Town for the second Test. Rohit Sharma reacted to the same in the post-match conference and pointed out the hypocrisy of the critics. The 2nd Test between India and South Africa lasted for 107 overs, making it the shortest duration of Test match in the history of the format. Rohit gave a statement to the critics.

The Indian captain felt that batting at Cape Town was challenging. The star batter was visibly riled up by the fact that he had to answer to the questions regarding the pitch. Rohit went on to say that he would not mind batting on pitches like those at Cape Town. But he expected the critics to behave the same when India rolls out difficult pitches to bat on at home.

Rohit said that everyone must ‘Keep their mouth shut’ when India prepares difficult pitches to bat and must not complain about the same. “I don’t mind playing on pitches like this as long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India and doesn’t complain about Indian pitches. You come here to challenge yourself. And when people come to India it is challenging as well,” said Rohit.

‘In India, they say dust, dust from day 1, here they were cracks on Day 1’ – Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain claimed that he was in SA to challenge himself and expected the visiting side to prepare for the same when they tour India for different challenges. He went on to add that the pitch in the ODI World Cup final 2023 was rated below average and did not agree with it either. Sharma added that a guy (Referring to Travis Head) got an easy hundred.

Rohit concluded by saying that one must not look at the country but look at the pitch and jokingly said in India the pitches are ‘Dusty’ and in SA it is full of ‘Cracks’. “World Cup final pitch was rated below average. A guy got an easy hundred there. People should look at the pitch and not the country. In India, they say dust, dust from day 1, here they were cracks on Day 1,” added the Indian captain.
