India and West Indies locked horns on Day 5 at Port of Spain in Trinidad. India needed 8 wickets to win the second Test and West Indies required 289 runs.ย  But there was no play on Day 5 as the rain had the final say as the match was drawn. Not a single ball was bowled on Day 5. Unlike in Dominica, there were quite a few rain breaks in Trinidad, meaning there were truncated play sessions. India, however, won the series 1-0.

India made a commanding 438 in the first innings. This was primarily due to Virat Kohli’s scintillating knock of 121 off 106 balls with 11 fours. Kohli scored his 29th Test match hundred and also his 76th overall. Yashasvi Jaiswal made a stroke-filled 57 off 74 balls with nine fours and one six. Captain Rohit Sharma also hit 80 off 143 balls with nine fours and two sixes, and Ravindra Jadeja made a valuable 61 off 152 balls with five fours. Ravichandran Ashwin also played a vital hand and struck 56 off 78 balls with two fours. Jomel Warrican and Kemar Roach picked up three wickets each in their respective spells.

India are in second place on the World Test Championship table

In reply West Indies could muster only 255. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite played a marathon knock of 75 off 235 balls with five fours and seven sixes. Mohammed Siraj was the hero for India as he picked up 5-60 in his 23.4 over spell, which also earned him player of the match. This meant that the Men in Blue were in the driver’s seat with a sizeable lead of 203. In the second innings, India made 181-2 in 24 overs.

The Men in Blue switched to T20 mode with quickfire half-centuries from Rohit and Ishan Kishan. This meant the West Indies needed to chase down a target of 384. India picked up two wickets on Day 4 with the score at 76.ย  Even though India ended up winning the series, they lost some valuable World Test Championship (WTC) points. The Men in Blue are in second place on the WTC points table with 16 points and a point percentage of 66.67. The Men in Blue will now look to do well in the white ball leg of the tour.
