The ACC Women’s Emerging Team’s Asia Cup is at its closing stages. Pakistan and Bangladesh played out a low scoring semi-final at the Mong Kok Stadium in Hong Kong. Bangladesh Women won the toss and opted to bat. Rain had a part to play in this game as well. The encounter was a 9 over truncated game. It was not a good performance with the bat by Bangladesh as the Pakistan bowlers kept picking up wickets at regular intervals.

Nahida Akter was Bangladesh’s highest scorer with 21 off 16 balls which contained three fours and one six. Her valuable contribution with the bat proved to the be the difference in the end. The next highest on the scoresheet was Rabeya Khan who made a painstaking 10 off 20 balls. Fatima Sana picked up 3-10 in her two overs spell. Anoosha Nasir supported her with 2-6 in her four overs. Bangladesh could get to 59 in the allotted overs.

India and Bangladesh will play in the tournament final

Pakistan needed 60 to win to seal a place in the final. The total did not seem a daunting one by any means. But in hindsight Pakistan would be left questioning their batting performance and also for not showing enough intent which would have helped close down the game. Rabeya was Bangladesh’s best bowler as he picked up 2-13 in her two over burst. Marufa Akter conceded just 9 runs in two over spell. Nahida also bowled a miserly two over spell where she gave away just 8 runs and picked up a wicket.

Pakistan tried hard but could only get to 53-4 in their nine overs giving the Bangladeshi’s hard-earned 6 run win. They will face off against India in the final. India and Sri Lanka were slated to play the first semi-final on the reserve day, but rain intervened, and the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

India and Bangladesh have topped their respective groups and will face each other in the final which will be held on October 21. It will be interesting to find who will end up lifting the ACC Women’s Emerging Team’s Asia Cup. The multilateral tournament has been a great platform for the young cricketers to showcase their skills.
