Australia and England played out a thriller at Edgbaston in the first Ashes Test in 2023. The fans were rewarded with five days of entertainment as Australia got the better of England in a come-from-behind win by 2 wickets. Pat Cummins hit the winning runs for the Kangaroos and thus Australia got a valuable 1-0 lead in the series heading into the second Test at Lords.

On another note, James Anderson cooked up a storm after being critical of the Edgbaston pitch. Anderson further went on to say that he is “done” if similar tracks are produced for the remainder of the series. The veteran England pacer said the surface at Edgbaston was “like kryptonite for me”. Anderson failed to produce significant returns with the ball, as always. He only picked up a solitary wicket in the first Test, and everything else felt like a blur.

It is a long series, and hopefully, I can contribute at some point -James Anderson on the Ashes

“If all the pitches are like that I’m done in the Ashes series. That pitch was like kryptonite for me. There was not much swing, no reverse swing, no seam movement, no bounce and no pace.” “I’ve tried over the years to hone my skills so I can bowl in any conditions but everything I tried made no difference. I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle,” Anderson wrote about it in his column for ‘The Telegraph’.

“It’s a long series and hopefully I can contribute at some point, but if all the pitches are like that I’m done in the Ashes series.” The right-arm pacer further added. Stuart Broad and Anderson have been magicians with the ball for England and have produced the goods even on batting-friendly pitches. The bog-taking point throughout the Test match was Ben Stokes’s early declaration in the first innings when England was 393-8, but Joe Root was still batting at that time.

“I know I wasn’t on top of my game this week. It was not my best performance. I know I have more to offer and contribute to the team. I want to make up for it at Lord’s and all I can do is turn up on Sunday and prepare to play. Anderson further elaborated. When we look at his Test career, he has scalped 686 wickets in 180 Tests.
