The Decision Review System has been in use for a long time in the game of cricket. The System is meant to help the umpires get more decisions right. The system is also in place to reduce howlers from the players point of view. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar feels that the DRS system in place currently is not serving its purpose.

Tendulkar, who was sharing his thoughts at the India Today Conclave, talked about various pertinent issues on cricket.  The DRS system was flagged off in Test cricket in 2008 and was brought to ODI cricket in 2011 and to T20 cricket in 2017. The Little master said that he did not understand the worth of on-field umpires if, players go up for a review every time they are dissatisfied.

Mixing on-field umpires and technology is a recipe for disaster – Sachin Tendulkar

“I completely disagree with the current format, if the ball is hitting the stumps, it’s out and if not, the batter continues to bat. When someone, either the batter or bowler, is unhappy with the on-field umpire’s call and that’s why they go to the third umpire. Then why are they going back to the decision of the on-field umpire? Tendulkar said.

The former India batter said that it is wrong to mix technology along with the on-field umpires.

“If you’ve decided to go that route (with technology), then go that route. But what we’re trying to do is mixing both things and I disagree,” Tendulkar added.

Sachin Tendulkar has scored 18,426 runs in ODIs and 15921 runs in Tests. Tendulkar has made 51 centuries in the longest format and 49 hundreds in the ODI format.

“Quite a few, I couldn’t count them on my fingers for sure (when asked how many times he would’ve referred to DRS if it existed during his playing days). I would have loved it, without any doubt. Some decisions go in your favour, some go against you as well.”

Tendulkar is still involved in the game in various ways. Tendulkar has also played two editions of the Road Safety World Series.
