The first match of the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is being played at Eden Park in Auckland. The New Zealand skipper invited the Indian team to put runs on the scoreboard after winning the toss. Shikhar Dhawan is leading the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Notably, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are also rested for the tour.

Team India started on a brilliant note with Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill bringing up their respective half-centuries. However, New Zealand came on top after dismissing Gill, Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession.  Later, Shreyas Iyer smashed 80 runs and made a 94-run partnership with Sanju Samson while Washington Sundar’s cameo helped India finish on a strong note.

Washington Sundar steals the show

Sundar came at no.7 to bat and played some incredible shots and smashed 37 runs off just 16 deliveries and helped India to cross the 300-run mark. No one was expecting such fireworks from the 23-year-old. Sundar smashed three fours and as many sixes during his knock.

In the 49th over of the innings, Sundar played a beautiful scoop shot by walking across his stumps and converted a low full-toss into a boundary over the short-fine fielder. He did not give Matt Henry enough time to adjust his length as Sundar decided to move very late.
