England and New Zealand are battling it out in the second Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington. England scored 435-8 in the first innings, to which New Zealand responded with a meagre 209, consequently following on. They made 483-10 and gave a target of 258 to England in the fourth innings. The match made headlines for another incident when Michael Bracewell produced a Harmanpreet Kaur-like run-out.

Jack Leach bowls and Tom Blundell whips the ball to mid-wicket. The batters ran two but, in the end, due to lethargic running Bracewell was run-out. He failed to ground his bat in time and the bat and his foot were in the air when the bails were dislodged. Stokes ran from mid-on and threw the ball quickly to Ben Foakes who first pretended to run Bracewell out but later executed it.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s run out could be compared to MS Dhoni’s in 2019 World Cup

A few days back India Women skipper Kaur was also at the receiving end of such a runout, her bat got struck in the crease and she could not get back in time and was run out by Alyssa Healy who quickly whipped off the bails. When the Punjab-born cricketer got out after making 52 off 34 balls with six fours and one six, this was the turning point of the match as India lost the last three wickets for 29 runs.

Many of the fans blamed Kaur for getting run out and branded her as lethargic and lazy. Notably, Kaur was not a hundred per cent heading into the semi-final clash against Australia. There were reports that she would miss the clash due to illness along with Pooja Vastrakar who was sidelined for the same reason. Sneh Rana replaced Vastrakar for the semi-final against Australia.

A lot of comparisons were made to Kaur’s run-out earlier and many said that the run-out was also similar to MS Dhoni’s run-out in the 2019 World Cup in England against New Zealand. Dhoni played his last ODI match where he was run out by Martin Guptill after he had scored 50 off 72 balls with one four and one six and forged a partnership with Jadeja. India went on to lose the match by 18 runs. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
