With the Test match action now shifting to Ranchi with India leading the series 2-1. In the latest development in the Test series, the security has been intensified in Ranchi in response to threats from Gurpatwant Singh Pannun to disrupt the fourth Test match between India and England. Pannun has called on a local political party to assist in infiltrating the ground during the game.

In response to the threat, local authorities are taking no chances. Security measures at Ranchi’s cricket stadium are being intensified to ensure the smooth conduct of the match. The move comes in light of a similar incident during last year’s Ashes series, where protestors invaded the pitch during the second Test match at Lords.

Rohit Sharma and Ben Stokes are currently engaged in a five-match series, with India leading 2-1. England secured victory in the series opener in Hyderabad by 28 runs, gaining an early lead. Subsequently, India emerged triumphant in Vizag and Rajkot by margins of 106 and 434 runs respectively, taking the lead in the series. The fifth and final match of the series is scheduled to commence in Dharamshala on March 7.

Security is on high alert in Ranchi ahead of fourth Test match

Security measures have been heightened ahead of the fourth Test in Ranchi following a terror threat from Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Pannun purportedly urged local CPI (M) members to disrupt the game, aiming to prompt its cancellation and send Ben Stokes and his team back to England. PK Mishra, Hatia’s DSP, confirmed an FIR against Pannun under the IT Act, with investigations underway.

A circulating video allegedly features Pannun outlining the plan, involving raising Khalistan and Maoist flags on the ground to draw international attention to farmers’ issues. Despite this, ticket sales for the match remain promising, as stated by JSCA Media Manager Priya Ojha. Ranchi’s last Test match in 2019 saw India defeating South Africa to clinch the series 3-0.

“An FIR has been lodged against him at Dhurwa Police Station under the IT Act and an investigation has been initiated,” PK Mishra said.
