The SA20 League based in South Africa got underway on January 10, Tuesday and on Wednesday, Joburg Super Kings locked horns with Durban Super Giants in Match 2 of the contest at Kingsmead, Durban. It was, the Super Kings, led by Faf du Plessis who came out on top after putting on 190 runs on the board and restricting the Super Giants to 174.

Donovan Ferreira, the 24-year-old Proteas star, stood up for the Super Kings with his 40-ball 82 after the team found themselves in a hiccup at 27/4. The youngster contributed with the ball as well, conceding only 28 runs in his spell of 4 overs and also picking up a wicket to his name in the crucial encounter.

There was an interesting moment to take away from the game when a spectator in the top tier caught off the six from Ferreira in the tenth over bowled by Prenelan Subrayen. The old spectator, who took the catch, won the hearts of the entire set of fans gathered in the stadium, eventually grabbing the attention.

Just trying to focus on my game: Donovan Ferreira

With the Super Kings winning the game by 16 runs in their SA20 campaign opener, Ferreira was chosen as the Player of the Match and after receiving the award, in the post-match presentation, the 24-year-old said that he was just trying to focus on his game and score runs for the team. Notably, one has to agree that it was his quickfire knock that helped the team, although the West Indies star Romario Shepherd’s 20-ball 40 cannot be ruled out as well.

“Felt quite good. Just trying to focus on my game, the coaching staff picked me for a reason and I will do what I just needed to do. I like playing a positive brand of cricket, I just looked to hit straight and fortunately it came off. It’s important to hold your shape while going for the big hits on this wicket. I boweld in the nets and Faf asked me to bowl. the last I bowled was I guess, 6 months ago. Lucklily it worked today,” Ferreira was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
