WATCH: Shreyanka Patil creates history with 4-fer against Barbados Royals Women in WCPL 2023

On 4 September 2023, the third match of the ongoing Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) took place in Bridgetown between Barbados Royals Women (BR-W) and Guyana Amazon Warriors Women (GAW-W). However, BR-W won the game by three wickets but GAW-W’s Shreyanka Patil created a history.

She picked up a four-fer and became the first player to do so in the history of the tournament. After getting signed by the franchise, she also became the first Indian cricketer to be signed for the tournament. Patil also became the first Indian player to be offered a contract in an overseas league before making her international debut.

Sheyanka Patil went wicketless in the first game

Speaking of her performance, Patil grabbed the wickets of Hayley Matthews, Rashada Williams, Aaliyah Alleyne, and Chedean Nation. She finished the game with four wickets for 34 runs in her four overs. But, her effort went in vain as her team eventually lost the game. Speaking of the match, GAW-W skipper, Stephanie Taylor won the toss and opted to bat first. Then, they scored 146 runs for four wickets in 20 overs while Sophie Devine was the highest scorer with 42 runs off 40 balls, including six fours. For BR-W, Erin Burns took two wickets while both Matthews and Amanda-Jade Wellington took one wicket each. 

In reply, BR-W managed to chase down the target in 19.2 overs with three wickets to spare. Erin Burns remained not out on 53 runs off 41 balls. Her all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award. After this win, BR-W have now won all of their three matches so far while GAW-W have suffered losses in both matches. Patil has played in both matches and managed four wickets. However, she has not got any opportunity to bat so far in the tournament. GAW-W will be in action again on 5 September against Trinbago Knight Riders Women in Port of Spain. Both teams will look for their first win this season.
