WATCH: Shardul Thakur takes difficult catch during ODI World Cup 2023 game vs Afghanistan  

Shardul Thakur's reputation as Lord Thakur keeps growing as he takes a stunning catch during ODI World Cup match against Afghanistan.

Shardul Thakur was included in the playing XI for the first time during the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The 31-year-old also made an instant impact as he took an amazing catch to get rid of Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Rohit Sharma lost the toss for the second game in a row and was asked to bowl once again. The Indian cricket team had beaten Australia in their previous game in Chennai by six wickets. This was the first time Australia had lost an opening game of the tournament fore a while.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the player who made way for Shardul Thakur for the game in New Delhi. The veteran Indian spinner had picked one wicket as India had bowled out Australia for 199 to open their ODI World Cup 2023 in fine style.

Shardul Thakur keeps his composure to complete a good catch

Hardik Pandya is celebrating his 30th birthday and the Indian all-rounder celebrated it big time. The birthday gift was given by Rahmanullah Gurbaz who tried to hook Hardik Pandya’s short ball.

The young Afghan could not time the ball as Shardul Thakur settled under the ball. The 31-year-old nearly stepped out of the boundary due to the momentum. Thakur though threw the ball in the air and came back to the field to complete the catch. Gurbaz was out for a breezy 21-run knock.

The Afghanistan team got a good start after their opening batters added 32 runs for the 1st wicket. The stand was broken by Jasprit Bumrah who got the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran caught by KL Rahul for 22.

Shardul Thakur then got into the thick of action when he had Rahmat Shah trapped in front of the wicket. The Afghanistan team was struggling at 63/3 before there was recovery thanks to Shahidi and Azmat.

After the game against Afghanistan, India will play against Pakistan on Saturday. The big clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 will take place in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Pakistanis chased down 345 against Sri Lanka on Tuesday thanks to twin centuries from Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan. This will be the 8th time the two teams meet in the history of the tournament.
