Rishabh Pant played his first match of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 against Zimbabwe on Sunday. Though, he couldn’t deliver with the bat as he was caught at long-on, courtesy of an unbelievable catch by Ryan Burl.

Coming in at the crease in the 13th over, Pant looked to steady the ship with Suryakumar Yadav. He waited for four balls before trying to hit one out of the park. The intention was right as it was in his arc. Pant smacked Williams in the region between deep mid-wicket and long on and it looked like the ball would reach for a six.

However, Ryan Burl went for the catch and took a screamer while diving full-stretch to his left. With that, he ended Pant’s 5-ball stay at the crease.

Rishabh Pant’s wicket left India in a spot of bother at 102 for 4. Suryakumar Yadav then showed his class with his range of shots. Kumar added 65 runs in just 35 balls with Hardik Pandya to lead a sensational recovery. Pandya only played as a second fiddle as he contributed 18 runs as many deliveries. It was Suryakumar Yadav, who stole the show with the bat as he smashed 61 runs in just 25 deliveries, including 6 fours and 4 sixes.

The Indian batter played most of his shots behind the wicket, leaving the Zimbabwe bowlers completely clueless on where to bowl. His knock helped India reach a formidable score of 186 runs at the end of the first innings. In reply, Zimbabwe have already lost two wickets for just 6 runs in 3 overs.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul also scored his second consecutive fifty in the tournament and this is a big positive for the team ahead of the semi-final encounter. Rohit Sharma, however, is short of runs but would be keen to step up on the big occasion.
