In the 2nd innings of West Indies against Australia, the West Indies promising fast Shamar Joseph suffered a brutal injury setback in Brisbane.

In the 73rd over of the West Indies second innings, Mitchell Starc delivered a classic inswinger that struck Joseph on the right foot, with the umpire awarded the LBW decision. However, replays revealed that Starc had overstepped the popping crease, therefore the delivery was called a no-ball.

Joseph, who had requested a review, was in immediate distress after the delivery, removing his shoe and calling for team medics and was taken off the field.

Starc and Australian spinner Nathan Lyon gave the injured bowler a pat on the back as he walked off the stadium. Joseph did not return to the field when Australia’s second innings began, and the West Indies later confirmed he had been gone for scans.

Following Joseph’s departure, the West Indies innings was finished, with Australia scoring 216 to complete a 2-0 series whitewash.

The 24-year-old has been a shining light for the visitors, claiming five wickets on Test debut in Adelaide, including Steve Smith’s scalp with his first delivery.

West Indies are trying to level the two-Test series

Earlier in the first innings the West Indies chose to bat first and were 64/5 but later recovered from that and finished at 311 runs at The Gabba. Australia struggled with bat as they were 54 for 5 but Usman Khawaja Alex Carey and Pat Cummins managed to score 289 runs.

Australia declared, despite being 12 runs behind. Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon split six wickets to restrict the West Indies to 193 in their second innings.

Australia lost opener Khawaja early in the chase when he was caught behind by Alzarri Joseph on 10. West Indies are trying to level the two-Test series. They were humiliated by Australia in Adelaide last week, losing by ten wickets. Since 1997 West Indies haven’t won a Test in Australia.
