In the ongoing Test match between England and India at Visakhapatnam, India bowler Jasprit Bumrah delivered an enthralling performance against England during the second session of Day 2 in Vizag. Bumrah’s second spell after lunch saw him take two consecutive wickets of Joe Root and Ollie Pope, putting England in serious difficulty.

After picking up Root’s wicket with an outswinger delivery, Bumrah destroyed Ollie Pope‘s stumps with a blistering yorker in the 28th over. Bumrah removed Pope for the fifth time in ten innings. Pope’s wicket was also significant since he hit a match-winning 196 runs in the second innings of the first Test in Hyderabad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal brings up his 1st double-century

Pope’s wicket was the fourth one that England lost in the second session of the match in Vizag, putting them in jeopardy. Earlier on day 2, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his first double-century, helping India post a total of 396 in the first innings. Jaiswal had scored a six and a four against Shoaib Bashir to complete his double century, but the rest of the team struggled with the bat during the first innings. By achieving this feat he become the third fastest Indian to hit a double century in Test cricket for India.

In response, England got into a good start but started losing wickets quickly after scoring fifty runs for the first wicket. Zak Crawley, who was batting particularly well, threw away his wicket while attempting to hit a huge shot. Crawlety’s wicket opened the floodgates for England, who lost two wickets in a row, Root and Pope.

England did not lose any more wickets until the tea break, finishing the session at 155/4 in 33 overs. Apart from Bumrah, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took the wickets of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, respectively. At the time of writing, England trailed India by 241 runs on a track with varied bounce. Some balls of substantial length had soared up, while others remained down, putting hitters in danger.
