Jasprit Bumrah unlikely to feature in 20-20 World Cup 2022: Reports

Team India has testing times ahead. India’s pace kingpin Jasprit Bumrah could be doubtful for the 20- 20  World Cup as things stand. Bumrah has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 with a ‘back injury. But it is the same serious injury that put the brakes on his career in 2019. It has come back to haunt him again. Both BCCI and selectors are worried, with just a month left to announce the squad for T20 World Cup 2022. Jasprit Bumrah has spent a long time on the sidelines with his nagging back injury. Experts say it’s his unusual action that takes a toll on his body and he suffers frequent injuries. But he seemed to have recovered from that and played crucial matches for India. However, the injury has come back to trouble him once again.

“Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed,” a senior Indian Cricket Board official told InsideSport. It was a lower back stress fracture that ruled him out for many months. But now with the 20-20 World Cup approaching, The news regarding the injury has come at the worst possible time for India. 

Jasprit Bumrah’s unavailability is a big hole to fill for India 

The leader of the pace battery has had injury troubles in the past that delayed his Test debut to 2018. Bumrah has suffered a back injury which is the recurrence of his old injury. Even though is not a stress fracture, considering his history of injuries, it is causing big concern. Bumrah has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 and will undergo rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru.

But the cause for concern is his long layoff from an injury that has happened previously. Bumrah spent almost five months on the sidelines in 2019 when BCCI said it was a minor injury. In his absence, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the bowling.
