The former Indian captain turned 41 on Thursday as wishes poured in from his fans all across the world. Dhoni burst onto the scene on 23rd December 2004 as he made his international debut against Bangladesh but unfortunately he got run-out on the very first ball of his career.
He went on to score a magnificent 148 in just his fifth ODI against Pakistan and there was no looking back for this legend after that. Dhoni was also famous for his long hair for which he was also complimented by former Pakistan PM Parvez Musharraf. In no time, he took the cricketing fraternity by storm with his excellent wicketkeeping skills and six-hitting ability.
Dhoni became the captain of the Indian team during the inaugural 20-20 world cup and went on to lift the trophy. He further led India to many tournament victories such as the CB series in Australia and Asia Cup. In 2011, MS Dhoni added another feather in his cap by leading India to victory in the ODI World Cup. Coming into the finals of the tournament, Dhoni was heavily criticized for his bad form. He answered his critics in his own style as he played a stupendous knock of 91 off 79 balls, that included 8 fours and 2 sixes, which also won him the ‘Player of the match’ award.
Dhoni won another major trophy as captain in 2013 when he lead the team in their victorious Champions Trophy 2013 campaign. The Indian team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and eventually lifted the trophy.
Apart from international cricket, Dhoni has also had a successful career in the Indian T20 league as he led the Chennai franchise to four title victories. He also won two champions league T20 titles as the captain of the franchise
