The International Cricket Board has added another illustrious name to its Hall of Fame, and this time, it’s former India opener Virender Sehwag who takes his place among cricketing legends. Alongside him, Sri Lanka’s World Cup-winning hero Aravinda de Silva and former India captain Diana Edulji have also been honoured with this prestigious induction.
Virender Sehwag now becomes the eighth Indian men’s cricketer to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He follows in the footsteps of cricketing icons like Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Vinoo Mankad, all of whom have received this recognition for their remarkable contributions to the sport.
In celebration of Sehwag’s induction, the Indian cricket team took on the challenge of describing the former opener in just one word. The likes of Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav shared their thoughts on Sehwag’s profound influence on the game. A video capturing this tribute was posted on Instagram by the International Cricket Board, giving fans a glimpse of the deep respect and admiration the cricketing world holds for Sehwag.
Hardik Pandya, who is currently out of the ODI World Cup 2023 due to an injury sustained during India’s match against Bangladesh, offered heartfelt praise for Virender Sehwag in the video. He stated, “Virender Sehwag changed the White Ball cricket for the longest time,” underlining the former opener’s significant impact on limited-overs cricket.
Sehwag’s induction into the Hall of Fame serves as a fitting tribute to a career that revolutionized the way cricket is played. His aggressive and fearless approach to batting made him a true game-changer and an inspiration to cricketers around the world. Congratulations to Virender Sehwag on this well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the sport.

Sehwag was an exceptional Red Ball cricketer, he can walk into any All time Test XI without even a debate. pic.twitter.com/bHYIW4hfGb

Sehwag is a great player but to be honest it was Srilanka with Jayasurya and Kaluvitharana as openers which changed ODI cricket and its direction
