Cricket is back at the Commonwealth Games for the 2022 edition and the T20 format will make its first appearance, with Women’s teams participating in the Games. The Indian Women’s Team will look to do well in the tournament. The Women in Blue will also be hoping for a podium finish and will look to go for gold in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The former skipper and Men in Blue batting superstar Virat Kohli has conveyed his warm wishes to the Women in Blue. The former skipper also gave heartfelt and encouraging words to all the athletes who are going to take part in the marquee event of CWG 2022. The Commonwealth Games edition of 2022 will begin today on 29th July and it will come to an end on August 8th.

The Women in Blue will face a tough challenge first up from a strong Australia Women’s side who are red hot favourites to do well at the games. The Australia Women’s Team has already won a World Cup this year and will want to continue the momentum and go for gold at the CWG 2022. The Women in Blue, under the able leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, will also want to give a strong statement by winning their first match against Australia.

Virat Kohli took to Twitter to give his wishes to the Indian Women’s team

“My best wishes to the Indian women’s cricket team and all our athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.

Talking more about the India match against Australia, the encounter is scheduled to take place in Birmingham with the Australian Women starting as firm favourites. Team India also has a potent bowling attack and also a good batting line-up, consisting of the likes of Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. They will collectively look to give their best against a strong Australia Women bowling line-up.

“This tournament is very important for us. This time we are playing for a medal. If I speak about myself, we have grown watching these kinds of tournaments and we are glad that we are also getting an opportunity, we will be part of a big event,” Harmanpreet said before taking flight for England

Australian Women have batting superstars like Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, and Tahlia McGrath, who will give a tough fight to the Women in Blue. All in all, it is going to be a cracking contest to watch.
