The Mumbai side might suffer a bit of a jolt going into the Indian T20 League 2023. According to reports, it is reported that Rohit Sharma might sit out for a few games of the competition to manage his workload. This year is a World Cup year and India will also play the Test Championship final from June 7 to 11 after the Indian T20 League ends. Rohit had also emphasised after the ODI series against Australia regarding workload management.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side whenever Rohit rests. Mumbai did not have the best of seasons in the Indian T20 League last year. They finished at number 10 on the points table. The franchise had four wins and ten losses. The 0verseas players stepped up to late for them last year. They did not have depth in their Indian bowling options. The batting which looked good on paper did not click. Mumbai who have won five Indian T20 League titles will want to set things right.

Mumbai will be bolstered by the services of Jofra Archer. But their bowling will have a Jasprit Bumrah sized hole to fill. Barring Archer and Jason Behrendorff , the overseas pace bowling department lacks depth. Jhye Richardson has been ruled out due to injury. Same is the case with the spin department. Piyush Chawla has been brought in. It remains to be seen if the veteran can replicate his past performances.
Mumbai had a great side in the SA20 tournament, but they finished last. The MI Cape town side had the likes of Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan and Dewald Brevis. MI Emirates finished third in the ILT20 in Abu Dhabi. The Mumbai women’s side had scripted history in the Women’s T20 League by winning the finals. They beat Delhi by 7 wickets at the Brabourne Stadium.
Mumbai will want to play well this season and give their fans something to cheer about. The side is lacking some depth. But the franchise could take inspiration from winning five IndianT20 League titles. They will want to give it their all as matches come back to the Wankhede Stadium after a three-year hiatus.
