The Punjab team are all set to sack Anil Kumble as their coach for the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League. The franchise haven’t been at their best since the 2014 edition. However, the team management comprising Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, Karan Paul and Mohit Burman seem to have sorted out the core problem. They are now in to make some changes in the coaching staff and a new coach will take the throne soon.
A source from the team management has now revealed that the team will appoint Trevor Bayliss as the new coach. It has been reported that the paper works will be done at the earliest and the team is all set to welcome the coach on board. The Australian is known for his strong coaching skills and the team might fare out well under him.
“The team has decided to go ahead with Trevor who is among the best in the business and has a proven record. The management is hoping that the team goes on to win the title under his guidance. The paperwork is expected to be completed soon,” the source said to ESPNCricinfo.
Punjab is all set to have a new team structure in the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League. With Kumble making way for Bayliss, the team will take on the arena with a new brigade. Although it is up to Bayliss to decide the retaining of players, he’ll certainly have a few ideas to execute.
The red team lost as many as 23 games in the previous three editions and they’ll look to change things around this season. Although the former spinner did his best, he was not able to win as many matches as he did when he coached India. Trevor Bayliss has a decent record in the league with two titles to his name with the Kolkata team. For the unversed, he is also the 2019 World Cup-winning coach under whom the England team roared like beasts.
