The Super Four stage continued at the Asia Cup with India locking horns against Sri Lanka. The two met at the Dubai International Stadium for this clash. This encounter was crucial for India. As for Sri Lanka, it was a chance to seal a place in the final. The toss was won by the team from the emerald island, and they elected to field first.
India started on a disastrous note as they lost Kl Rahul who was dismissed by Theekhshana, Virat Kohli was then dismissed by Dilshan Madhushanka as his stumps were shattered.
India at this point was in total disarray, they needed some rearguard action, and this was provided by Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav who put together a vital partnership and brought the score from 13-2 to 110-3. Rohit looked in ominous form while scoring his 72 runs from 41 balls which had 5 fours and 4 sixes and found support from Suryakumar Yadav who scored an uncharacteristic 34 from 29 balls. Rohit threatened to take the game away from the Sri Lankans, but he was stopped short by Karunaratne who bowled a good short ball.
Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant perished trying to find the boundary towards the longer side of the ground. Dilshan Madhushanka bowled a beauty at the stumps to send Hooda’s wickets flying. India needed a finishing kick. They got it courtesy of Ravichandran Ashwin, who made a quick 7 ball 15 with one six, this allowed India to get to a total of 173-8.
Sri Lanka wanted to make the powerplay count and that is exactly what happened. A solid start was provided by Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis who smashed the listless Indian bowlers everywhere, they scored 52 and 57 respectively which gave Sri Lanka the perfect platform to power on. The Dasun Shanaka-led side was halted for a brief while in the chase as Yuzvendra Chahal picked in 3 quick wickets in no time.
Sri Lanka though showed no nerves as Bhanuka Rajapaksa countered the spinners. Shanaka was at his best as well and found the boundary at will. They scored 25 and 33 respectively with lots of scoring shots that powered Sri Lanka to the target of 174. This was a terrific performance from the Lankan’s who pummeled India in every sense at all stages of yesterday’s game. Twitter was abuzz, let us take a look at the reactions here-

Thrilled for Sri Lanka. But slightly disappointed we won't see a 3rd Pakistan vs India match. The arch-rivals take one a piece in the Asia Cup. We'll just have to wait till the T20 World Cup to see them battle again. 23rd of October 2022. Put it in your diaries boys & girls.

It doesn’t matter who plays, who doesn’t as long as they play well enough together to win — it’s that simple isn’t it? India didn’t get the runs that would’ve help them win Vs Pakistan and Sri Lanka. If they can crack this problem… END.
