ODI World Cup 2023

Mohammad Kaif holds firm to belief that India were best team of ODI World Cup 2023

Just as he said initially, Kaif is not willing to accept that Australia was the best team of the World Cup.

The 2023 Cricket World Cup was an unforgettable spectacle of sporting drama and cricketing excellence, forever etched in the annals of sporting history. At the heart of this captivating saga stood the Indian cricket team, a force that captivated the nation with its unwavering pursuit of victory.

India’s had a magnificent journey in the 2023 World Cup, winning the games in a row and emerging as the hot favourites to lift the trophy. Most of India’s wins were comprehensive ones and even in the few occasions that they were challenged, India managed to come out on the right side of the result. India eventually fell agonizingly short of their goal, losing to Australia in the summit clash at the picturesque Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In a post-match interview, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif grappled with India’s unexpected loss in the Final. While acknowledging their defeat, Kaif remained steadfast in his conviction of India’s cricketing prowess, emphasizing that on paper, India held the upper hand. He attributed their loss to a combination of factors, suggesting that it was merely an unfortunate turn of events rather than a reflection of their overall cricketing ability.

“They had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament’s best team” – Md. Kaif

“Congratulations to Australia but I am not ready to accept that the best team won the World Cup. This Indian team has been the best side. They would win so many times playing against the same Australian team, even though they lost today. It was one of those bad days, this happens sometimes. ,” Kaif had said.

In response to Kaif’s comments, Australian cricket veteran David Warner took to Twitter to underscore the unique challenges of knockout matches. He passionately argued that the immense pressure and inherent unpredictability of these high-stakes encounters are precisely what elevates them to the pinnacle of sporting drama. Warner stressed the importance of rising to the occasion and delivering when it matters most, emphasizing that it’s the performance on that particular day that etches one’s name in cricketing folklore.

“I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day, you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come,” the southpaw wrote.

Today, Mohammad Kaif took to Twitter once again, this time to reiterate the point he made in his first tweet. While refraining from directly addressing David Warner’s earlier tweet, Kaif’s message resonated as a subtle response. He maintained his conviction that despite Australia’s triumph, India remained the superior team overall, highlighting their consistent performance throughout the tournament.

“Facts: It was Australia’s day in the final, they won, and they are World Cup winners. More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, and they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament’s best team. Both facts, on paper and field. Relax Australia”, he wrote.
